Granny's Biscuit Bowl
My Granny used to make the best homemade biscuits and she always mixed up her dough in this bowl. My Grandparents built their house in 1948 and Mom said that Granny had this bowl many years before that. Pawpaw made her a large pull out cabinet where she kept her flour and this bowl. The bowl was very pale, maybe from the wood drying out mostly but could've been from the decades of flour that was mixed into dough. I wanted to preserve this little part of my family history so I used some cutting board mineral oil and a beeswax/mineral oil paste and rubbed it into the wood to restore it's original honey color. Mom said she remembers it looking like this.
Granny used to get up every day at 4:30am to make her biscuits. I can see them now, golden brown, split one open and watch the steam release into the morning air and quickly put some butter in between the two halves and let it melt, then open it back up and drizzle some Golden Eagle syrup all over it and savor each bite. Oh man, what I would give to have one of her biscuits again. Maybe I will make some from her recipe and make them in her bowl!!!
