Are they somehow expected to do their due diligence (as what, athletes/models/actors?) sussing out the business plans of these companies they're hired to endorse? How are they liable for the failings of FTX any more than the cameramen filming the commercials or the TV stations airing them?

It’s possible Tom and Gisele did more than simply hawk the fraud as celebrity spokespeople on TV. If they actually sold the scam to people as in possibly holding court at very private events at very private locations with very private people and made promises to those people or lied, then there may be a case to be made against them. It may come down to how much they actually knew about what was going on. As far as we know, they could have sold abunchuvit to people just before it crashed. They may have even unloaded their own holdings the timing of which may be suspiciously close to the collapse.
