I have a '84 944 that fires up instantaly, but I also have a '90 S2 which has the same condition as you mentioned. Mine has around 85,000 miles or so now, and I've checked into this on some other forums. I think it is just a symptom of the particular car. In other words, I think it's the way it's supposed to be, "actually firing up after cranking a few revolutions".
