There are some specs for the clearances between the gears and the housings, and between the gear teeth. I don't know what those specs are, but a search here may find them. I'll say this, make sure the pumps are within the specs, especially the scavenge side. Otherwise you will end up with the case filling with oil becuase the scavenge doesn't keep up with the pressure side. There's also a mod on early engine cases to allow the oil pressure valve to send excess oil back into the supply side of the system, instead of dumping it in the bottom of the case, where it has to be scavenged again.
