The mod he is talking about (apordes) is a resistor. It goes inline of the temp signal wire and changes the resistance value going to the dme. Yes it will make the dme think the incoming air is cooler than it really is and will slightly richen the mixture, problem is; richening the mixture will not increase horsepower unless additional oxygen is also present.
But, to answer your question, I believe the IAT sensor is located inside the AFM.
