Kevin: Set your dwell to 48 degress; 54 is to high; and then recheck you timing.
Check the Decell valve as it may be sticking; temp. plug off the small vac. line that goes to it! If the problem is not in the accel. linkage or worn out throttle valve; my money bets on a bad decell. valve!
