I definitely wasted some time cobbling that stupid thing. When I do it your way I will drill the hole oversized so there is some room for cowl twist.
I have also considered gluing the rubber lip to the cowl plastic and then gluing that to the windshield. Maybe a little too aggressive and will suck if you have to replace windshield.
