I feel for you Jerry. I went through this with my Mom who lingered for two years in such a state. After the assisted living facility took every penny she had we managed to get a Medicaid bed for her in an absolutely horrible facility but we couldn't afford 50,000 a year for a better one.
She suffered a UTI, went to the ER for 4 days. Then the home told us she that she was gone for too long therefore she lost her bed.
So, thanks to a truly caring doctor she stayed in the hospital on Medicaid's dime until we found another bed.
Elderly care for the middle class is a nightmare.
