My uncle, Porsche factory trained master mechanic, owned an independent repair facility for 35+ years and cut countless (hundreds and hundreds) of these factory ferrules off and replaced them with German hose clamps (i.e. non-worm drive / fuel injection clamps).

Different location, same dynamic. I used a Dremel with a flexible shaft attachment...












Of course, the usual disclaimers apply, work in a well ventilated area, try and minimize sparks (slower cut-off wheel speeds) and have some type of fire suppression handy.
