I bought matching paint for the car and did the hood. I applied cans of gloss clear coat. Sanded liberally with 800 - 1500 grit wet sand paper but it still looks like a smooth but matt finish. How can I get it to have the high gloss I was hoping for?

Full disclosure, this was for my Girlfriends VW Tourage.
