Haven't seen the movie
yet but I was watching a 'making of' feature on a science show where they were explaining how they did the animations, etc for the film. In it, they showed a real street scene with actual cars (one was the aformentioned black long hood 911) and proceeded to show the car again with a real taxi dropped on top of it.
The computer generated image in that sequence was the tidal wave rushing through downtown Manhattan... the
carnage was real I'm afraid...
