Henry,

Have you noted how close the rod end cap on the number six cylinder comes to the body of the oil pump on the 76.4 mm cranks.

My hypothesis is that the clearance between these two parts is so close that any imbalances in the crank or slight stretching of the rod bolts, at high rpm, results in a slightest contact between the end cap and the pump resulting in a cracked pump.

Thoughts?

Have you ever noted a oil pump crack in a motor with a 76.4 crank and raceware rod bolts?

Is the pump failure noticeable by a drop in oil pressure, noise or just discover at rebuild time?
