I do it both ways, depends on if it's a long light. Then I will pull it out of gear and let the clutch out.
I guess I got into the habit when I had an older Ford Ranger and the clutch was messed up so I would have to put it into first before I stopped moving or it would'nt go into first.
Sometimes, I forget if its in or out and I just sit there and wait for the rpms to go down and then get moving.
