Ive had my car for just 5 months, but I would consider it reliable and have no concerns driving it anywhere. I purchased my car from a mechanic that recently did a belt change, water pump change, front seals and clutch. I think those are all the major maintenance items.
A full service history is nice, knowing when the belts were changed is a must.
