Bill, keep working the groud issue. If nothing else, just removing and replacing can be enough to fix an oddball electrical problem. When I first started to assemble my car, (bought it in a box...) I noticed that the more grounds I cleaned and tightened, the more weird electrical inconsistancies went away...
