800 rpm is correct for an 84. The later cars idle at 880 rpm. You can adjust the idle speed by turning the 7mm nut on the throttle body. It will be covered by a yellow plastic cap, if an adjustment had never been made before. Check the archives for the steps to correctly do this. Make sure you're using an accurate tach/dwell meter and not the tachometer to measure idle rpms.
