BTW: My 66 did require the tach adapter. I have the old ugly one. Looks like somthing out of a 30's russian airplain.
As far as the poping on decel, part of that depends on how well your exhaust breaths. I have been able to tune most of those out using Bruce Andersons 1800 RPM idle mixture adjustment trick.
