New member from Utah (Ogden area, north of SLC).
Yes, they salt the roads heavily here, but rust is not a problem. The reason is that the air is so dry that after salting the roads, the water evaporates quickly. Most of the snowfalls are pretty dry, not the heavy, wet snows on the east coast. It is not unusual to get up after a heavy snow and find the streets that have been plowed, are already cleared and dry!!
As a bonus you can just take your arm and sweep the dry powder off your vehicle.
