Marius,

I had only owned the car about a month, and after filling my gas tank I pushed the reset button (car NOT moving) and it set the trip odometer to 000.0 - after driving a bit, I noticed it was still on that number. I started watching my "regular" odometer and noticed it had also stopped moving.

My guess is that the PO had not been in the practice of resetting the trip meter, and it was an accident waiting to happen. The brownish gear you see in my pictures is very brittle and the teeth could not take the extra forces from the reset knob and sheered off at the worm gear.

I think you're probably talking about your (electronic) speedometer needle reading zero - my speedometer has not been affected by all of this and is working normally.
