When our clutch was done several years ago and this past winter when the topend was done, at no time did the mechanic do anything inside the car. Sounds like these guys were pulling out a drug cache or something? The panel to get to the shift linkage is under the carpet on the floor in front of the rear seat and unless they replaced the bushings it wouldn't even be opened. You might want to crawl under the car as the air cleaner shouldn't hit or even come close to the hinges and it sounds like the engine is cocked to one side or the mounts were put in wrong since they develop a set or twist and have to be put back the same way they came out, especially on Turbos.
