Only the Base Model and Carrara S are called 997's for 2005.
C4s
GT3's
Turbos
Cabs
are all 2005 996's. The 997 versions of those cars are expected next year.
As for the crazy prices for the options, this is nothing new to those that have owned Porsches and this is how Porsche is one of the most Profitable automakers based on profit per car in the world.
The base model of any Porsche has less standard features than a 25K toyota Camry. Some of my favorites are the 400 bucks they nail for on the sport chrono package in the 997. 80 bucks for a compass display in the Cayenne, back in the day leather was an option as vynal was standard and now if you want those rear seats in leather, cough up some cash, hifi radio more cash, A limited slip diff more money. The option list for Porsche has been and always will be sick. This is why it is always best to buy your porsche used. Go the Porsche website, it's possible to make a base model boxter more expensive than a 996 or 997. It's possible to make a 996/997 more expensive than a GT3 or a Turbo coupe.
By the way, note that the Turbo cab is a Tubro S cab. I bet not to many of these floating around. I may be wrong though.
