The car should be definitely level in the air when filling tranny oil.
The proper way to do an engine oil change requires at most 10 quarts oil if the filters are also removed and replaced for the 993, 964, and earlier 911's. The manual says to add 7 quarts engine oil and warm the car up to operating temp. With car idling (engine running) check the oil level with the dip stick. It is best to top up level between the low and high marks being closer to low than to high. Overfilling will result in a mess as oil gets thrown out through the vent tube into the air cleaner and can foul up your AFS!! Car should also be on level ground when checking the oil level.
