Well it depends on if you have the stock alternator, voltage regulator, what sort of wiring you have and the current load.

If you are getting 14.4v at the battery that is really pretty good/high. Really unusual and I would suspect it is without many other loads and your voltage regulator is set up around 14.9 volts. The voltage dropping a bit after running for awhile is normal as the engine bay gets hot. For several reasons.

A good voltage at the battery would be around 13.9/14 volts. Get too much higher than that and you will start to cook the battery and shorten its life. Get up to 15+ volts and you risk the damn thing exploding.

But it sounds like you have a good charging system going now, but at the high end.
