There is an engine compartment light under the cover in all 1983 911SC.

I am at work, starting the day, so I cannot take a picture, but the light is mounted on the center "bar" that bisects the inside of the air grill. The switch for the light is a rotating cover, that when opened to expose the light bulb, will turn on the light. However, the parking or running lights must also be on, in order to allow the engine light to turn on.
