working on a 928 vs. 911 (ranting to vent)

i needed to help do suspension work for a friend's 928. he is babysitting my two dogs while i am on vacation for a month. it is the least i could do. i called him twice to make sure he had all the tools. "yes" was the answer. after getting to his house and determining that he didnt have the tools, i was pissed, but still thinking, "be nice/dogsitting". he had the tiniest jackstands, and an ittybitty floorjack. the kind you have to remove the handle to put into the notch screw to release it. funny how that tiny motion can add time and frustration. i swear, a leatherman tool came into play during the work. we elected to do the rear shocks for some confidence building. have you seen the suspension on the rear of a 928? very perplexing. while knocking out this huge pin and removing the top nut. i gave very specific instructions to hold everything up with the floor jack. i was in the car doing the top nut. i hear my friend tell his bro, "move the floor jack". i yell no! but sure enough i hear the fissssh! of the tiny floor jack release. the car actually teased us for about 20 seconds. everything looked peachy. then EFFEN BANG! the shock releases. i see the two bro's out of my peripheral literally levitate to safety. no injuries, but damn it if everysingle washer, nut, thingamigiggy, goes shooting into oblivion. we break into search parties of twos and do a grid search in the messiest garage i have ever seen. luckily we find everything! but we didnt have a schematic to put everything back together. and effen KONI sells the shocks without hardware so we have to re-use everything. well after taking everything apart and putting it back together six times, we never got it right. the rear wheel was always loose and jiggley. i have never been defeated by a car like that. it was discouraging. on the other hand, i can do a 911 shocks in about 3 hours with one helper. it was the worst car working weekend of my entire life. it wasnt safe, it was dirty, the tools were scarce, i think everyone but me was taking bong hits, one guy kept farting, we ran out of beer, this tiny dog that live there hates me, and barked for 7 hours straight..... thanks for letting me vent.
