I remember reading somewhere....I believe in Bruce Anderson's book that there is no issue with the hardness of the valve seats, and running unleaded fuel. I wouldn't worry.
I have a '72 T with '70 T pistons and cylinders. This brings the compression ratio higher than a '70, or '72. (Higher compression piston from '70, longer stroke from '72)
In the US, our we don't use the RON which I believe England does??? Our octane ratings are typically 87, 89, and 91/93 dependant upon which state you live in. Personally, I use 93 octane. So people have found better results with lower octane. Remeber, this topic is similar to "which oil should I use". It will have more opinions than you care to read about.
So....try a few. That's the best advice I can give you. If you want to save, and start low, try it. See if you have pinging issues. If you do, pour some octane booster into the tank, and fill up with a higher grade next time.
I'm no chemist, or combustion engineer, so I can't speak very deeply on the lead, no-lead, octane issue.
Enjoy the car!!
