If you have the motor aligned to TDC on 1 before taking the distributor out, you don't have to play with it.
Good luck. It doesn't fit right in 2pc points distributors, and after two weeks of fighting with keeping the car running with it, I just ripped it all out and put the points back. Wasted a lot of money because the information implied it worked on a wider range of 911's than it really does.
I think the 70's cars are okay, though. I know a few people with it in them.
