Bingo!
Well, it started right up and ran great.
Here’s what I did.
As I said, I set everything to TDC #1 before pulling the dizzy. After I installed the Crane pickup and brackets, I put the rotor on and lined it up with the #1 position on the dizzy housing and adjusted the pickup to line up with an opening in the shutter wheel (just by eye).
Black wire to ground.
Red wire to switched 12V at the center fuse in the three fuse block.
White wire to the two wires that used to connect to the points (one black & one purple & black)
The instructions talked about much finer adjustments than I made, but it seems to work fine anyway.
I took pics throughout the process, so maybe I can put together a tech article to help the next person doing this. As I said, I was not happy with the quality of parts and instructions, but I guess I won’t have to worry about points anymore.
