I agree that it only takes one rock to chip the paint but with the aerodynamic flow of the car sometimes the air just trow rock on some parts of some cars. For example if my Jetta is dirty all around there are 2 or 3 spots that are a lot cleaner just because of aerodynamics, and if my car is clean some spots get dirty very quick. I was just wondering if putting these ugly decals would really help keeping the paint nice or if they are just there as a precaution.

The hood seems a spot more exposed to paint chips and it doesn't have any protection thats why I think it might be a rock magnet from an aerodynamic stand point.
