Careful not to drill into the gas tank.

Any ideas on the tidiest way to run the wires from the rear hatch area through to the head unit?

Best way I've found is from the back of the head unit, behind the glove box, under the passenger side-carpeting. At this point there should be a plastic lip separating the carpet from the inside door frame - perfect to run wires under. This will get you to the back of the door. From there, run underneath the backseat side trim and into the hatch area. Now just zip tie whatever wires you have together and keep them out of the way. Might be able to even tuck them under the lip of carpeting that folds down from the back of the back seat.
