That old 4 door confusion
Well, it happened to me for the first time tonight. I pulled up to the pumps in the 72 and got out, as the teenage attendant walked out from one of the bays. "You'll have to move, your gas tank's on the other side" he says. "Nah, that's the oil tank...fuel's over here" I reply. Wide eyed look..."OIL TANK?"
This launches a description of the dry sump system..."9 1/2 quarts!!??..Wow!" So this is followed by a thorough checkout of the car...seemed like he'd never seen a 911 up close. "What year? How many miles?" "Wow, a 72 with only 86,000 miles!".
Etc., Etc. Best line was on leaving..."If you keep it in as nice shape as it is now, it should be worth something some day."
