Rear Speaker Install
I finally got around to installing the rear speakers (JL VR600 components) and they are completely hidden. I built a fiberglass enclosure to sit on the shelf right above the rear seats, and the carpet fits over it pretty well. I used the car as the mold and used spray adhesive to stick part of a plastic tarp to the spot I was going to fiberglass. Then I laid the fiberglass in the car and let it set up. The adhesive is not very strong so it pulls off pretty easily. Next, I trimmed it to the smallest dimensions still allowing the speaker to fit. I fashioned a top mold by using some masking tape to provide support and some carboard circles to make flat sections for the speakers. I then laid the fiberglass and when it dried, connected it with the bottom section and cut the holes for the speakers.
Then I installed the speakers and fit it in the car. It fit pretty snugly so I didnt think there was a need to bolt it in.
I was pretty pleased with the way it turned out. It sounds good, and you cant see it. The sub box in the picture was an earlier fiberglass project. I have seen them other places but thats the most unobtrusive place (assuming you dont need to move the seats all the way back) without having to cut holes in the car.
