I would like to get advice/input on the proper way to finish a f-glass bumper.

What grit to sand with?
Sand in stages (varying grits)?
Primer needed?...type recommended

It's for a track car so I am not looking for concourse level work. I'll be doing it in my garage and don't mind investing some time to get it to look nice but would like to spend less than one day on it.

Any experience you have would be appreciated.
