Okay, I'll have a go...

I recently changed the bearings on my earlier car. I know there are some subtle differences. I had the same symptoms as you describe and it turned out that the bearings were beyond loose - they were completely shagged and failing fast.

For mine I had to get a 30mm socket and a bigass breaker bar... then I added another 2' of gal pipe for leverage! These are cranked on seriously tight! To loosen I used some penetrating oil and had to stand on the end of the bar... and jump! Tightening was the reverse, although I didn't "jump" to tighten.

It might pay to get to some advice on the state of your bearings.
