Its been a while since I had to do this so Im a little fuzzy (had to swap a good gear from a bad shaft onto my good shaft w/ a bad gear)
I think you need to remove the chain sprockets first (look at which way the int gear has to go - it comes off in the direction of the bolt heads) . There is a large circlip if I remember correctly and the rest of the process was pretty straight forward w/ a gear puller. Remember to buy new lock tab washers for the gear.
