Since you are comfortable working on your car, why worry about running wires up front? I am totally inept with engines, but it only took me thirty minutes to wire my remote trunk release. Just pull back the pad around the hood release, drill a hole about an inch to the right, and then run the wire along the stock harness, using th eharness retainers. It has to be easy because I am an idiot and mine works great!
I even located the switch inside the glove box.
