Depends what you call quiet.
Some people think that it makes a difference - others don't.
A word of advice though. I have just added a 1970 VW Type 3 Fastback to my drive (in addition to the 914) and that still had all of the sound deadening attached.
After looking over the heater channels I decided to take a look under these SD's.
Rust, rust, more rust and holes.
Needless to say if you car is spending time in wet conditions (like over here in the UK) you could do no worse than forget the SD's.
Our 914 has a similar problem with rot in the floorpans - I am trying as hard as I can to keep up with it, but the SD's just propogate rust.
Enough ranting on my part.
