My 88 seems to have a similar problem. The driver window worked intermittently then stopped completely. I have removed the panel and found part of the regulator at the bottom of the door. It looks like a 1" rod about the diameter of a pencil with a slot cut in one end. My local Porsche dealer will only replace the whole assembly for about $300-$400 and other stuff needs to be done for that kind of $. I believe Pelican has an article on the replacement of this but I really don't have a place to work on my car (live in apt) so I'm just going to have to live with it.
