my favorite tool is a snapon 1 7/16, 1/2" drive box style crowfoot (like a box end wrench with a split). use a 1/2 to 3/8 reducer and a 3/8 ratchet. you don't have to take the outer line off. the male and female faces of the hose and t/stat do the sealing. they just have to be tight. sealer on the threads does nothing for this job.
