OK, I am not an early car's guru, but I had a similar problem.
I think it's a fuel pressure problem. I suspect the
1) fuel pump
2) fuel pressure accumulator (do you have with carb's?)
3) fuel line (bending, clogging)
4) fuel filter - you have checked that.
What about using the hand throttle for starting?
