"After digging at the outside for 2 days and being less than halfway I have given up any thoughts of removing the frame."
That's why I didn't try...and just glued the top part. I knew 3/4 of the glass was NEVER going to move so I just made sure that it didn't leak...and I think what I did will hold for a long time. We'll see. 1 year and counting.
