What an interesting development!
From what I hear/read, to the Palestinean voters, Hamas represented not so much terrorism, but the end of Fattah's culture of corruption. This certainly makes sense, since I have a hard time believing that the majority of Palestineans would be in favor of many more years of intifada.
I think there's a lot of potential here. If Hamas takes this result as an endorsement of continued terrorism, there will be a brief (or prolonged) bloodbath. More likely--I think--is that Hamas will get to work trying to build a government. Nevermind what they said on the campaign trail, right now they have a people to govern.
You can go from sadistic militant to responsible politician and caring leader of your people. Look at Sharon.
