The fender-mount oil coolers on the '72s were about the same as other years; maybe a slight difference in the length of the flex line hose to the cooler. This shouldn't prevent you from installing a front bumper oil cooler. All you'd need is the appropriate cooler (Earl's, B&B, AJ-USA, Mocal, etc.), some -12 or -16 AN hose and a couple of metric-to-AN adapters. The size of your friend's race bumper and underlying sheet metal modifications is the only limitation to how big a cooler you can fit.

Not certain if the '72 oil thermostats/parts are available/affordable. If this is the case, you may want to opt for the more common oiling system/thermostat setup with accompanying oil tank, hose and filter console upgrades.
