You forget, most cars have side doors. They are using a structure that eliminates many weakpoints of a conventional car. Also , do to the componets being so light, things like engine mounts, and the suspension, do not need to be as tough either.

Most American's today, like a door that goes all the way down to floor level, and up to the roof, and is long, this makes an area of the car that is not very fun for a chassis engineer. They simply eliminated it.
