Hello

The RS came normaly without black color in the enginebay or in the wheelweels.

However they could be ordered with it.
I think that was quite rare within the first series ( aluminium duck tail frame and trany oil pump ) as all those cars had to go to the TÜV to be count and recive the wighting for the FIA papers.

The factory cardex will show it then.

I know only one car who had it for shure ( 0013 ). Showed in cardex ( Mr. Lang himself ) and Mr. Bott could remember it ( Well that car was a little "showcase" or "prima ballerina" under the early RS )

In fact the factory did use to overspray the bodycolor with that high pigment matte black used on the dash, the middletunnel, outher seatrail podest and the forward bulkhead.

The inner doorframes where not sprayed the used a sponge like tool and "brushed" it on.

BTW the OEM from that color was and still is 200m down the road in Zuffenhausen.

If you like they mix the old color in 50 kg cans.

Engine sheet metall is RAL Black ( 9001 ? ).
Color was applied by hot tanking on bare metall. Later sheets received previous a anticorosion treatment. Some engines had tinware pressed from Weissmetall (whitemetall) witch was lighter and didn´t corrod as fast. Had seen it only once on a factory RS sportomatic engine ( Well i know this thing is not in the literature but it exists and was in a 914/6 ). Unclear today what was up with that as Mr Bott hadn´t much time left over.

But maybe some other RS had similar tinware ?
