You shouldn't need to pull intake parts to change wires/plugs, but it may be a bit of an adventure to get them all layed back in there right.
As far as headlamps, I run the 7" Hella Euro-spec H4s with the standard bulbs (55/60??) and the light just fine and are a marked improvement over the DOT 7"ers. With the 8" H4, I think you'll find them to be excellent with the standard bulbs; both output and light pattern wise plus you won't need to worry about the extra load on the stock wiring of the higher wattage bulbs. You can also use the H5 units off the S4 cars by changing the plug, but unless you are shopping used (more common) the H4 is the better way to go IMO.
