Mine appears to be to the right as well, the later SC's are to the left. This is why half the photos I looked at confused me.
From this link I found the slot which locates the number one cylinder firing location - mine is right of the clip.

Gunter; Yes, all SC 3.0 liter engine distributors rotate CCW (counter-clockwise). The Bentley SC manual shows CW by mistake. All other Porsche engines have the distributor run CW.
