replaced clutch master cylinder

I just replaced the clutch master cylinder. the pedal just falls to the floor when i try to pump it up to bleed the system. there is no resistance on the pedal. i continued to try to bleed the line that way but i only get a little puff of air at a time. is that normal or is there somthing wrong? also is there a better way to bleed the lines? this way,if its right, is gonna take a long time. thanks
