Bob, I was not planning on component 6-1/2's so hopefully I won't have the separate tweeter issue you have had. I have no particular reason to pick one brand of speaker over another except recommendations. In my case I need "old man" ears to tell me what to pick! I'll go Alpines if you think they are substantively better.

I doubt my old Becker has much power so I pretty much HAVE resigned myself to use an amp, though I'd rather not if I could get away with it. No plans to use a sub...I think I'd be more annoyed by the base and the box taking up space (I know, I know, "if its too loud you're too old!). I probably am! I do remember someone posted a fairly spece-economical under seat sub setup here. I'm sure it would come up in a seach of "sub", "speaker" or some such. Thanks for the response.
