There are many options available for changing the headlamps (just the light, not the whole assembly). Is your friend suggesting you cut a hole in the back of your sealed beams in order to change the bulb? I wouldn't do that. There are a few 'bolt-on' alternatives to the stupid 7" sylvania sealed beam. On ebay you can find 2 or 3 different kinds of drop-in 7" light fixtures which are designed to have removable bulbs, and I think they come with xenon bulbs. There are the e-codes, cibies, and a friend of mine has these cool looking hella fixtures that have flat glass - they look nice when off... I don't know about their light output. I don't know about any of these bulbs' light output, so either take a shot in the dark or ask people that have them. But there are options beyond cutting glass.
